The Sermon on the Mount: Practicing Righteousness

Today's lesson focuses on Matthew 6:1-18 and Jesus' warning to beware practicing righteousness before others in order to be seen by them. We will contrast the hypocrite and the righteous man in their practice of giving, praying, and fasting. We will also discuss the prayer Jesus gives as a model to teach us to pray.

The Sermon on the Mount: Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

In today's lesson we discuss what it means to be salt and light in the world as well as how Christ fulfills the Law and the Prophets. We are reminded yet again of the single story of the Bible: Jesus come as man to live and die and rise again to redeem a people for the glory of the Father. Jesus exposes incorrect application of the Old Testament law and defines the kind of righteousness His kingdom demands.

The Sermon on the Mount: the Beatitudes

This lesson is the first of a new unit on the Sermon on the Mount. What does Jesus mean by blessedness and how does the woman of God know the blessedness described in Matthew 5? We discuss these themes as well as a brief review on why we do what we do in Bible study. Note to listeners: I forgot to cut off the recording at the end so, no, my lesson really isn't as long as it appears and, yes, there is some dead space at the end that I didn't know how to edit! 1.gif
